Executive Director

Captivated by the sense of community and Philosophy of Care here at Eden Gardens, Erin is excited about the purpose of our work. As our new Executive Director she will support and guide our team as we continue to thrive, and seeks to improve the quality of life for our staff, our residents, volunteers and families. Her experience has provided a deep appreciation of diverse populations, and she brings her knowledge and collaborative leadership style as she delves into all aspects of our organization. Born and raised in Toronto, Erin moved to BC in 2009 after graduating from Centennial College with an advanced diploma in hospitality. Working with Fairmont Hotels during the Olympics was a definitive career highlight. Erin's career then shifted into working for the largest English as a Second Language school in Canada, ILSC. Over 1500 students were learning English through their locations at any given time. Vancouver Island became home after marriage, and a beautiful daughter. Erin continued her profession in education as Regional Manager for career training at Discovery College. Erin is very excited to partner with our outstanding care team to continue building a culture that values trusting relationships; enriching the lives of individuals who deliver care and are in our care; building a better organization and ultimately creating a more just and caring world.

Denise T.

Denise T.

Director of Care

Through her many years as a Registered Nurse and in various additional capacities in the health care industry and a multitude of specialty areas, Denise has found her true passion in gerontology. Denise's focus is on quality initiatives. She sits on numerous quality improvement committees, and leadership panels within the community. Denise has been recognized by the International Nurses Association for her contributions towards advancements in gerontology. The Canadian Student Nurses Association has recognized Denise for excelling as an effective Eden Associate within Canada. Denise looks forward to providing continued opportunities of growth for everyone who is touched by Eden Gardens, whether it be residing in our home, a loved one of our Elder's, a Care Partner, one of our resident pets, or one of our cherished volunteers.

Ken

Ken B.

Finance Manager

Ken worked in the forest industry for 20 years as a labourer, equipment operator, forklift instructor, WHMIS instructor and as a supervisor. He changed careers at age 38 due to economic downsizing. Ken obtained a Business Management Diploma with an accounting major winning the Governor General's award for scholastic achievement. After graduation he worked for nearly 16 years in private industry as a business manager, controller and in senior management. Since 2010 he has been in health care as a business manager, administrator and Finance manager, and now Executive Director for Eden Gardens. Married for 37 years to his wife Marge, they enjoy three children and three grandchildren. Other interests are his love hate obsession /addiction with the game of golf, playing trumpet and competing in bridge tournaments.

Ken is a hard-working, highly motivated individual. Since his arrival in 2010, he has made a significant contribution to improving all aspects of operations; ensuring the health and safety of the residents and staff, achieving financial stability, improving morale and promoting the Eden Alternative philosophy of care. He has also played a key role in enabling NTLS to sign a contract with Island Health to build Eden Gardens and in securing financing for the project through BC Housing.

Ken has always been a strong leader, from working with our Board of Directors and the contractors on completing our new home Eden Gardens, to bringing it to fruition both on time, and on budget. Ken is now semi-retired, managing our finances, and continues on a volunteer basis to facilitate Eden Alternative training for our staff, volunteers, and families.


Carolina

Carolina

Manager Programs, Training and Development

Carolina was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, where she earned a BA in Social Work and a Master's Degree in Human Resources. She immigrated to Canada in 2001.

Carolina has been with Eden Gardens since 2011; she oversees the Activities and Daybreak Departments and also supports the implementation of the Eden Philosophy of Care, and the culture change that parallels it. In her role, Carolina helps build strong, caring relationships amongst the whole care partner team (Elders, family, staff, and volunteers) by providing education, resources, opportunities and support to ensure the well-being of the community. Her team`s "Simple Pleasures" poster was awarded second place at the Provincial SafecareBC conference for best safety initiative.

Carolina believes in connecting people, and she truly enjoys bringing them together towards a mutual goal, making it a pleasurable experience for all.
